Meet Wendy Maxwell: Director at iLEAD Agua Dulce

We are thrilled to introduce Wendy Maxwell, the dedicated and passionate Director of iLEAD Agua Dulce. With nearly three decades of experience in education, Wendy brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep commitment to creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment for all learners. She is looking forward to all of our planned events for the school year and supporting staff, learners, and families. Get to know more about Wendy and her vision for iLEAD Agua Dulce in this Q&A with the Director!

Q: Can you tell us about your background and how you came to be at iLEAD Agua Dulce?
A: I have been in education for 28 years, with 18 years as a teacher and 10 years as an administrator. I worked with all of the iLEAD administration in a prior school district and respect their education knowledge and professionalism.

Q: What’s the best part about your role? 
A: I love the hands-on approach to all aspects of the school site, including the animals, garden, Makery, Exploratorium, and Music Lab.

Q: What do you love about iLEAD Agua Dulce? What sets it apart from other schools?
A: It has a family feel; learners are happy, engaged, and excited to be here and learning in a hands-on environment.

Q: In your opinion, what makes a great leader?
A: Integrity, being honest and doing what is right, building trust and respect among team members, clear communication, empathy, compassion, flexibility, and collaboration.

Q: There are great social-emotional learning activities at iLEAD Agua Dulce. Can you share a story about seeing learners using them in action (or yourself)?
A: My favorite part thus far has been seeing the learners help to feed and clean up after the animals.

Q: Please name three to five fun/interesting facts about you. Extra credit for lots of details.
A:

  1. I played college volleyball and coached for 20 years.
  2. I enjoy watching my kids in their sports events.
  3. My daughter plays volleyball at Long Beach State, and my son plays football at Hart High School.
