Hello Families,
We want to make sure that all of you are receiving your Weekly Update from your child’s facilitator. These updates keep you informed of what is taking place in the classroom and with the project. It also has a Home/School Connections portion of activities that you can do to support your child’s academics at home.
iLEAD understands that packets of rote homework to complete can not only cause stress for the learners and their families, but serves little to no educational value. However, we do believe that practice at home is still essential for optimum learning. Our “homework” just looks different. We value family time and the need for children to decompress after a full day at school. We also want our learners to have the time and opportunity to pursue their own unique interests. Therefore, work that is sent home will be meaningful, engaging, and relevant. This includes reading each night and practicing on Prodigy or Khan Academy for math. The online math practice automatically sends data to the facilitator so they can support or further challenge where needed.
The facilitators will also send home practice that relates to the project and provide opportunities for the learners to delve deeper into the process of the project. You will also receive a grid of optional activities for your child to complete at home that will further enhance core subjects.
In addition to Home/School Connections, our facilitators email Table Talks. Table Talks are 2-3 prompts related to what your child is learning at school. We hope that these prompts will help to create rich discussions around the dinner table. If you ever have any questions, please reach out to your child’s facilitator, the office, or me. We are always here to support.
Warm regards,
Lisa Latimer
