At iLEAD Agua Dulce, a TK-12 free public school in Agua Dulce, CA, we believe that science isn’t just a subject. It’s a way of understanding the world, fostering critical thinking and equipping our learners with the skills they’ll need for a future we can only begin to imagine. We’re passionate about making science come alive for every learner.
Real-World Connections: Bringing Science to Life
One of the cornerstones of our science program is connecting learners with real-world experts. We believe that hearing directly from professionals in various fields helps our learners think globally and understand the broader workforce. Our team regularly connects learners with specialists whose work pertains to their projects, making their learning tangible and relevant. Imagine your child collaborating with the following experts:
These valuable interactions spark curiosity and demonstrate the diverse paths a passion for science can lead to.
Project-Based Learning: Equipping Future Innovators
At iLEAD Agua Dulce, we champion Project-Based Learning (PBL) as our primary framework for science education. This approach goes beyond rote memorization, empowering learners with critical thinking and problem-solving skills to tackle complex challenges. As the California Science Standards Framework notes, effective science programs seamlessly integrate with other core subjects. Through PBL, our learners naturally reinforce their reading, writing, listening, speaking, and mathematical skills while building the following valuable skills:
At iLEAD Agua Dulce, we believe that true scientific understanding blossoms through active engagement. Our learners dive into hands-on exploration, constructing knowledge as they experience it. From the youngest explorers in kindergarten, who delve into ecosystems, weather, and forces through tactile inquiry, to first graders discovering the wonders of structure, function, and space patterns, and second graders exploring matter, Earth’s processes, and basic engineering design, every year builds on the last.
As students progress, third graders expand their understanding of forces, ecosystems, and life cycles, while fourth graders investigate energy, waves, and organism structures. By fifth grade, the concepts deepen, encompassing states of matter, energy flow, Earth’s systems, and the solar system. In sixth grade, learners explore cells, body systems, genes, and human impacts on Earth, even delving into entrepreneurial engineering design. Our seventh graders study the intricate flow of energy in ecosystems, organism development, atomic structure, and Earth’s history. Finally, eighth graders embark on an advanced journey, exploring molecules, chemical reactions, forces, various forms of energy, natural selection, space systems, and the crucial role of human impacts, all while continuing their engineering design pursuits.
Our commitment to immersive and authentic science truly shines through the iLEAD Student Aerospace Projects, which offer unparalleled opportunities. Through the DreamUp to Space Project (Grades 5-8), learners are fully immersed in scientific experimentation, microgravity, and proposal writing, collaborating to develop experiments potentially destined for the International Space Station (ISS). This partnership empowers them to think like genuine scientists.
The Soaring Aeronautics Project taps into a universal fascination with flight. Learners explore the principles of Newton and Bernoulli, design and launch gliders, interact with full-scale gliders, and even have the thrilling opportunity to fly a real glider in 8th grade! This rich experience integrates history, biology, and meteorology, offering a truly comprehensive understanding of flight. Our innovative Mycology Project invites students to delve into life science by cultivating mushrooms and addressing real-world problems, guided by the driving question: “How can our understanding of Mycology support wellness for humanity and our Earth?”
Beyond these unique projects, our rigorous high school science offerings include A-G approved courses such as Biology, Introduction to Agriculture/Agriscience, Aerospace and Advanced Science, Physics, Chemistry, IB Chemistry, and IB Physics, ensuring a comprehensive and challenging curriculum for every learner.
At iLEAD Agua Dulce, we are dedicated to fostering a love for science and equipping our learners with the skills and knowledge to become the innovators, problem-solvers, and critical thinkers of tomorrow. We invite you to explore more about our dynamic science program and witness the incredible scientific journeys your children embark on every day!
