iLEAD Agua Dulce Learners DreamUp to the International Space Station This Week!

iLEAD Agua Dulce Dreamup

When you dream, dream big! That is exactly what a group of 6th and 7th grade learners did last year when Mrs. Morrison posed the driving question “How can we impact our world through space exploration?” The challenge was to think of a meaningful experiment that could be possibly conducted in microgravity, particularly on the International Space Station.  The learners took on the challenge and thought of germinating aloe. Aloe has components that purify the air and heal wounds, both of which are beneficial to astronauts. The learners researched aloe, wrote a proposal, researched some more, met with scientists, and presented to a panel of judges along with over 200 other learners. Their proposal was then presented to a panel of NASA scientists, who thought the experiment was also beneficial.

We are soooooooooo excited to announce that four of our learners will be traveling to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida next week to not only present their research to NASA but watch their experiment launch to the International Space Station, where the astronauts will conduct their experiment! We could not be any prouder of the hard work, grit, determination, and beautiful curiosity these learners have displayed. We wish them safe travels and cannot wait to hear about their experiences!

Sam, Leo, Kaylee and Cody, always, stay curious!
