On December 19, iLEAD Agua Dulce 5th graders hosted a Presentation of Learning exploring the American Revolutionary War. Led by facilitator Sonia Kurfess, learners explored this driving question: “What lessons can we learn from the American Revolutionary War about freedom and leadership?”
In this engaging cross-curricular project, learners embarked on a dynamic exploration of the American Revolutionary War through social sciences, English Language Arts (ELA), and art. As historians, learners researched key events, figures, and themes of the Revolution, critically analyzing primary and secondary sources to build a robust understanding of the era.
ELA skills shined as learners practiced literacy strategies, including summarizing, synthesizing, and presenting their findings in written reports, opinion essays, and oral presentations. Creative expression took center stage as learners designed art pieces that brought the Revolution to life from their perspective.
This hands-on PBL approach fostered collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity, allowing learners to not only deepen their knowledge of a pivotal historical period but also strengthen communication skills and discover new ways to share their learning. The project culminated at the Presentation of Learning, a showcase event where learners presented their work to peers and families, celebrating their journey as historians, scholars, and artists.
Check out their beautiful work!
